Pharmacycle Recycles 50 Million Blister Packs: A National Sustainability Milestone

Pharmacycle has reached a major milestone. We’ve now recycled 50 million blister packs through our national network, bringing our total to over 79 million since launching in 2022. And we’ve done it all in just three years.

Our mission has always been clear. Solve the problem of pharmaceutical waste with real measurable action. Not through greenwashing. But through systems that work and results that can be tracked. We are building a circular economy. One where medical packaging is not just thrown away, but turned into something useful again.

The Impact in Numbers

These milestones show what’s possible when healthcare and sustainability come together:

  • 50 million blister packs recycled
  • 900+ drop-off points operating nationwide
  • 70+ local council sites
  • 80+ hospital drop-off locations active
  • 25 million packs recycled through Chemist Warehouse and Kenvue
  • 15 million packs recycled through National Pharmacies

Every number tells a story — of action, of packaging kept out of landfill, of communities that care.

National Reach and Growing

We’ve grown fast, and we’re still expanding. Australians in every state now have access to drop-off points. From major cities to small towns.

Our hospital program has grown to 83 sites. That means more hospitals can recycle the packaging that would usually go to waste.

We now partner with over 50 councils, supporting more than 70 council drop-off sites. They help bring blister pack recycling to homes, libraries, community centres, and council buildings.

Independent pharmacies are joining too. They understand the value of a solution that works for their customers and the environment.

What Comes Next

We are not stopping here. The next stage of Pharmacycle is already underway.

We are expanding into aged care facilities. These centres use a high volume of medication. But most have no way to recycle packaging. We’re changing that.

We’re also investing in education. This means more digital content, more radio campaigns, more community talks. We want to make it easy for people to understand how to take part and why it matters.

And we are bringing on more clinics, more pharmacies and more councils. All to make sure blister pack recycling is accessible everywhere.

Real Action, Not Promises

Since day one, we’ve focused on action. On systems that reduce waste. On partnerships that drive change. On education that leads to better habits.

This milestone is proof that small actions can lead to big results.

To our partners, councils, healthcare workers and community members. Thank you.

You helped make this happen. And you’re helping build something that lasts.
